It can be very annoying when your internet starts to get cranky. It works for a few minutes, then stops. Or gets very slow. And so, as usual, you would have to get down on the floor, or behind the desk, unplug the modem, wait a minute, plug it back in. But, if you are like me, perhaps you worked really hard to hide the modem, router and all their nasty cables. That means that doing a simple unplug and re-plug can be not so simple. Until now.

You can restart your modem simply by using your computer’s browser (i.e., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.). I am using a Motorola Surfboard. If your modem is a Motorola, then you should just be able to follow the settings that worked for me.

  1. In your browser, type in 192.168.100.1 and hit enter.
    • Try these if that doesn’t work: 192.168.1.101192.168.1.254
  2. This will open up your modem’s control panel. In the panel, start clicking around the tabs to look for a button that basically says, Restart Cable Modem. Mine was located under the Configuration tab. That’s it!
